315.52 km / 196.05 miles in a straight line from south to north as the crow flies. By land it's further than that because of topography.

Yakima isn't near the CDA/USA border at all, it's way down there in the southern half of Washington, near the Columbia basin and not too far (only 90 miles) from the Washington/Oregon border.

If one was to drive from Yakima to Vancouver doing the posted speed limits, it takes 4.5 hours. But driving you can't go in a straight line because none of the highways on the west coast go in straight lines. The highways have to twist and wind through the topography because of all the mountains and valleys, rivers and lakes that must be navigated around, across or through. If you google a road map of Washington and BC you'll see what I mean.

Too many just look at a skyline photo of the newer condo's in Yaletown, and assuming the whole city is like that. Unaware of the various neighbourhoods that reflect a different aesthetic .

Seattle is a nice place to visit, but it pales in comparison in urban planning and beauty. The link BruSan posted is just one of the many that Seattle has done on Vancouver. Most look to Vancouver as to what they want Seattle to become. That's why they are building more residential buildings downtown.

I have friends from Seattle who admit, that Vancouver has done a better job at making urban living great.

I've posted these before, but they are a good example of their gazing north.

It doesn't hurt that observation that Seattle is actually twice the size of Vancouver population wise. I realize that the two cities (inside city limits) have nearly identical populations, but Seattle has a far more extensive suburban collection.
