Thousand Oaks is probably too far West for us. We're looking for 3+ beds and 2+ baths with $5,000/mo maximum rent. We have kids so we prefer a single family home with some sort of yard or green space to a complex.

Other than checking the three major real estate sites (am I allowed to post the names here?) Is there somewhere else we should be checking? When I lived in the South Bay, the main way people advertised availability was window signs. You literally had to drive around looking for signs. Any similar insider tips for our target area?

Thanks!

Thousand Oaks is too far "West" than Agoura, Calabassas and Westlake? They are all pretty equally West...or did you mean too far North?

If you look at a map, it will make sense. The 101 runs east/west along that stretch and the ocean is to the south.

Sorry for the Internet silence. We've closed on the house in New York and are currently in the middle of a cross country road trip (Alburquerque, NM this weekend). Busy time!

The concern about Thousand Oaks is that the extra 15-20 minutes it takes to get there from, say Agoura Hills or Calabassas, puts us beyond the outer limit for preferred commute times to/from Century City/West LA. One of us works in Agoura Hills and the other likely will be working in West LA. As long as one of us is close to home/school we're willing to have the other person commute but don't want the drive to be too long when there are closer options. Not thrilled but Calabassas seems to be the current target area.

Checking Craigslist. And thanks for the link to Padmapper - will check it out. This group is very helpful!
