I'm currently in Port Hueneme and I have to fly out of LAX at 11:30 am this Thursday. I wanted to get to the airport by 10 am (have to drop off the rental car). I was planning on taking the Pacific Coast Highway all the way to the airport. Is this the best route? How long will it take to get to LAX during rush hour?

I have never driven the route but Google Maps says that the trip down Hwy #1 (PCH) is 54 miles and will take you 1hr. & 18min. The next best alternative is 101 to the 405 which is 71.5 miles and will take 1hr. & 23min. Again it doesn't say what time of day or how much traffic to get those times. I think I would take the PCH because I know that the drive from Port Hueneme to the 405 on 101 can take an hour sometimes.

if you have to be at lax by 10am then you are better off taking pch. the 405 will be a parking lot. I used to work in Culver city for a year so I'm familiar with the drive.

Actually they do - often two drive times will be listed, for example "55 minutes, 90 minutes in traffic." or something like that.

From Port Hueneme, I'd take PCH every time, no matter what time. You're already on the south end of things. Take Hueneme Road east, make a right on 1 and enjoy the scenery.
