There is a transit center in Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks - Home

Here are the 4 bus routes in Thousand Oaks. They all stop at the Transit Center. Thousand Oaks - Routes and Schedules (http://www.totransit.org/government/depts/public_works/transportation/routes_schedules.asp - broken link)

From the transit center, you can board 161 (as Charles said) and that gets you into the western San Fernando Valley. From there it will depend on where you want to go in LA.

If it is downtown (and not the weekend) you may find the Metrolink out of Moorpark will work too.

I'd say find a room mate and check out the Knolls on Avenida de los Arboles. They're pretty decent, but a little pricey. It's not that far of a bike ride to CLU either. There are some apartments across the street from campus but they're pretty old and run down. The apartments on St. Charles can be less expensive but they're very old and have paper thin walls. Still, not a horrible bike ride to campus.

I don't know much about the public trans. I grew up a block from CLU though. My only other recommendation would be to rent a house with some other people. I've seen a lot of rentals in Wildwood and you could walk to school.
