It's like going to college. You could spend the rest of your life thinking, "What would it have been like if I'd only gone?"

I really never hear anyone being called a flatlander.

On the other hand, one of my favorite applications of the term was back in the 80's when I saw a letter to the editor calling our then governor, Madeleine Kunin, a flatlander.

In actuality, she's from Switzerland.

I photograph covered bridges for a hobby and I can tell you that except for a handful of "tourist-oriented" towns, most tourists have probably never seen the "other" Vermont. I've traveled just about every corner of Vermont and can probably say with confidence that I've seen more Trump signs on lawns than Sanders/Clinton signs during the prior election. I would have to say my favorite village is Craftsbury as it certainly feels the most "New Englandish" and has yet to be overrun by tourist.

Oh, I was referred to it in good nature ribbing in the early 90s when I moved to VT for a spell.

Ok, hope I am doing this correctly. How liberal is VT? I live in the Midwest. What are the politics in VT? I hope I am not opening a can of worms!

Vermont is as liberal as you want it to be. If you want to hunker down with prepper Trumpists, you'll find them. If you want to bemoan the trade wars over Brie and chablis with limousine liberals, you'll find them. But I do think that women in Vermont have a somewhat better situation than women in most other states, which would indicate an above-average degree of liberality.

If you just look at election and voting results (voting democrat), Vermont takes #3 after Oregon and Massachusetts.

It's not that simple, of course. "Liberal" has very broad meanings and isn't always perfectly aligned with the DNC. Suffice to say, Vermont is more liberal in most ways than most states, on average.

Your kidding right? That is just a joke question I am sure. Your baiting us? Let me help you, imagine the most liberal place you can. Where a trans gender person is running for governor, and a socialist is your senator. No nukes, anti-corporations, zoning designed to stop housing developments, no billboards allowed. Solar everywhere. Food coops, homeschooling, and a serious impeach the president mindset...need I say more.
