We have friends coming up from Louisiana in Oct. and we are in Southern VT. I remember seeing this rock and it was best seen driving east to west? But which road? Lincoln Gap Road?

Also, if we were to take the scenic route (we are taking them to airport in Burlinton) and go up Rt. 125 from East Middlebury, onto Rt. 100 and then down whatever road this rock is on.. how long a detour would this loop be approx. from E. Middlebury to Bristol?

Ok and other "must see" places? They thought a "mountain" was spectacular when we were all in Birmingham AL and we were like "where, where" ? It was just a small hump in the ground, not even a hill !!!!!!!!

Thanks !

It's on rt 116 just north of Bristol. The Lincoln gap connects Bristol and RT 100 I believe. Right before you make a left to go to Bristol you'll see cars on the left side of the road. You'll see other people here. Walk down for a gorgeous view of rapids. You can swim in there, and the rock formations give you lots of privacy. It's beautiful. This is one of the areas best kept secrets. Try to park about 50 to 100 yards before you hit rt 116.

I'm a little confused about the direction you are going, Lincoln Gap connects RT 100 and Bristol. If you are coming from RT 100 to Bristol I'd stop at the Warren store and get some great sandwiches It's a classic New England Country store. Great sandwiches. Then over the Lincoln Gap to Bristol, maybe picnic by the rushing water I mentioned.

I'm not sure about the loop, or why you want to loop East Middlebury and Bristol.
Are you thinking you have to get back to East Middlebury to get back on RT 7 to get to the airport. If this is a one day trip, and you are driving from Rt 125 and 100 to the Bristol Rock and then the airport, you'd go in this order with no looping.

Rt125 to Rt 100 to-Lincoln Gap to rt 116 for the Bristol Rock. Continue North on rt 116 to rt 2 and make a right . Turn left on Airport Drive.

Second the Warren store for sandwiches. VT is overrated for food but the Warren deli does a nice job.

Hi, Thanks for the replies (I could not log on with my original name for some reason). We know the area and want to go up Rt. 125 as it seems interesting with the Snowbowl and writers buildings and then turn onto Rt. 100 and down through the Gap to see the Lord's Prayer Rock. It seems much more dramatic to see the rock after coming down through the winding gap. But then North on 116 so I guess it would not be a loop !! Right now we may take our time sightseeing on the way up, and stay over in Burlington as the friends have booked an early flight out.
