What airports do Brattleboro people use? Do they use Boston, Hartford, Burlington? Is there transportation to and from the airport at reasonable cost? Would it be feasible to park your own car at the airport? Would it be safe? Would the parking fees be prohibitive?

I'm spoiled. I live about 30 minutes from JFK airport. I rarely fly, but when I do it is very convenient. But I take car service to and from the airport. I would not leave my car there.

If I had to guess, I'd say Bradley. Possibly Logan, and possibly Manchester, NH.

Hartford is definately the most convenient. Just a straight shot down the highway.

Bradley in Hartford, CT is an hour and a half from Brattleboro.
There's also evidently some sort of little airport in Keene NH with some connections to (for instance) Newark.

Burlington's too far, really, from Brattleboro I believe.

In Burlington, the city bus runs from Downtown to the airport. I can walk from Downtown, which makes life really easy.

Here are some helpful links that answer many of your questions

http://www.brattleborochamber.org/visit/transport.php

http://hartford.about.com/c/ht/00/07/How_Get_Park_Bradley0962933322.htm (broken link)

Unlike NYC, however, I have always been driven to the airport by a family member or friend.

Just checked out Brattleboro Chamber of Commerce webpage listed in your post, Ontheroad. Yes, there is an airline that flies to Newark from Keene. Not ideal, but better than nothing. A possible alternative to driving an hour and a half to Hartford or 2 hours or more to Boston. Or 5 hours to New York.

I could even visit the Ikea store in New Jersey, right across from the runway. I visited that store once and, while eating in the cafeteria, watched planes land. I also remember that the food was pretty good.

I checked out the website for the airport in Keene. It appears to be a small plane/civil air patrol type of place. It also offers flight training, in case I want to take matters into my own hands!

Bradley is a small airport, easy to get to, easy to navigate, and easy/cheap/safe to leave your car there (most people do). It is about 20 minutes north of Hartford so you don't even have to deal with Hartford traffic to get there from the north.

Default Brattleboro to NYC by plane, if you like

By the way, I learned - from an old transportation book, so I hope that this isn't out of date - that there is a bus from Newark Airport right to Port Authority in midtown Manhattan. The trip, I think, is only 30 minutes.

Short drive to Keene, plane to Newark, bus to Manhattan.

So, I guess there is an alternative to driving or taking the train to NYC.

Regarding Bradley Airport in Hartford, it sounds nice for a longer flight. But to get to New York, it would be just as fast to drive. 1-2 hours to the airport, 2 hours to take off, maybe 45 minute flight. That amount of time will get you to NYC by car.

Not like Burlington, where you can really save time and energy by flying to NYC.

Arel, my husband once got stuck in Newark and just couldn't get out of there anytime soon, so he took a train from there to Grand Central, then a train home. It probably was quicker than waiting to fly!
