I admit that PC games have the best graphics and sound, but the system requirements for every PC game is a pain. Looking for the right gaming card for the PC can be a headache and expensive.
I recently tried playing my old games on a desktop, but it crashed. Now I've finally given up on PC gaming, but I'll still keep my old PC games as a collection and memorabilia.
I for sure haven't. My 600$ desktop I bought ~2.5 years ago is still good enough for all new games.
I remember a couple of years ago, back when multiplatform games were rare, this wasn't the case. You'd have to buy a new rig every year or so to be able to play the newest titles.. but then PS3 and Xbox360 appeared and brought multiplatform games with them. Since then I've noticed game designers actually started optimizing the games instead of leaving it to the more and more powerful hardware. As a result, we haven't seen as big a quality leap in graphics lately as we did a couple of times before, but at the same time you don't really have to buy a new pc annually. It's a trade I gladly made.
Yac.
They are hard to love - DRM, hacking, online mutliplayer cheats, keeping up with technology and hardware, incompatability.
My theory - if they are available on the consoles (PS3, Xbox) get the console version for sure.
There are still a few games that haven't made it to the consoles that I like - the Civilization series (except one dumbed down version), the Total War series, and some niche 3rd party developer war games.
No way, you will never see me take up Console gaming instead of PC gaming.
Graphics are better and the servers are better.
Granted companies like Steam and Treyarch are trying to make gaming like consoles and Treyarch is trying to kill off multiplayer gaming for the PC but I think (hope) we will get pased that and some more great titles will come out.
Not at all. I love strategy games, Company of Heroes, Total War Series, etc. and those games play poorly on consoles if they are even available. Also, as Yac pointed out, the hardware tech curve has really flattened out and swung in favor of the consumer. Games used to push the hardware limits all the time and force people to upgrade. Games like Strike Commander forced a lot of people to upgrade just so they could play. These days, the software has lagged behind the hardware allowing people to easily play games even on older systems without the need to buy the latest and greatest every year.
Besides, I need a computer and my computer can do a lot of things. A console can really just play games and stream media or do some limited web browsing.
I still play 'em, although usually only buying on Steam special deals where 50% off.
Similar to Yac in that I've had no problem keeping a slightly older PC still running 'em just fine, for me adding a new video card (AMD 5770) got me up to performance level again when it was looking long in the tooth.
Console gaming is far too restrictive, won't touch one with a ten foot pole. The serious PC gamer has no problems at all keeping their hardware up to the required level, you can have my gaming PC when you pry it out of my cold dead hands.
