I'll bite too, C-D style.

In what way is Virginia Southern, like Mississippi or Louisiana? Virginia is wealthy, right? How many people drink sweet tea on average in VA, compared to Alabama and Arkansas? Virginia is one of the most cerebrally well-bred states in the US, just like Massachusetts (not GA).

Do they have Nor'easters down South? (BOOM) Nor'easter storm Coverage for Hampton Roads. Yeah man, nor'easter sounds awfully like Northeastern. Haha...but I'm not saying that VA's northeast, you know what I'm saying?

So, there you have it...not North not South but Mid-Atlantic* ya mean (they don't say that down south but they do in Philly, not saying but just saying).

Don't be fooled by Richmond being the captol of the of the confederacy...we gritty, y'all, you'd swear that you were in Bridgeport, CT and if you squint your eyes and spin around 20 times you'd see a little bit of Brooklyn density stuff in there. I'm not saying that it is though, you know?

I'm about to go listen to some gogo (they don't do that in a place like Atlanta), that how it's done in the VA urea...opps, I mean area.

*the Mid-Atlantic is a subset of the Northeast (hold up?).

I was just messing around with all the above, pointing out the absurd is my game.

The Mason-Dixon line has moved south. It is now situated on the Potomac. So Virginia is southern, Maryland and D.C. is not. At least that's the way I look at it. Although I totally understand why some people say that Maryland is southern.

Virginia is a southern state. Go back and read your history. It is historically southern.

I agree that VA overall is Southern, but you cant say that just because a place is historically Southern that it is still culturally Southern today. I mean look at Maryland. You can't really find what it means to be Southern in any text book. It's not easily defined.

Or the Southern part of the North haha.

If the line had to be drawn somewhere, though, I would put it on the Potomac (making VA the beginning of the South).

Virginia is southern, but I know my family in Charlottesville have that DC type attitude. My dad who is originally from there always comments on my mom's family and how country and loud they are [in Texas].

However, I said note you "historically southern" as opposed to culturally southern. Maybe I shouldn't have started with Virginia is a southern state. Maybe not to the degree that Georgia or Louisiana is.

Texas for example is mostly southern until around the New Mexican border. By the time you get to El Paso, you are clearly in the Southwest; so maybe I should have stated that Va is mid Atlantic in NOVA area.

Oh yes, I have been to Va and yes it does have a lot of South in it. An astounding amount. But Alexandria and Arlington do not.
