I know there are a ton of daycares but when I tried finding someone to keep my son for a day or a few hours-very few places would do it and the ones that would charge $35 a day! (he was 8 at the time so it's not like he needed real supervision.)

Anyway, I'm asking because now that I have stopped needing "baby-care" I want to know if anyone else does. It was so hard finding a real (competent) baybsitter, I thought I'd open a babysitting biz, but then thought, but what if no one needs this service?

So if you wouldn't mind letting me know, are there already enough childcare services in VA (hampton/newport news area) and if anyone has a clue about how to find a babysitter when you need one around here. (I've tried social services and there lists were often outdated)- they may have gotten better now that they are online.

So if you know about childcare or think that people need babysitters in Hampton/Newport News area, please let me know. I most certainly don't want to build something there isn't a need for.

I think you should find a different line of work. Anyone who thinks an 8 year old doesn't need real supervision has no business in a daycare business.

Okay, I suppose my quick typing gave off a wrong impression (pardon me). I was referring to an 8 yr old vs an infant. Usually younger children require more supervision. I hope that clears it up. I'm just trying to find out if finding daycare is an easier now than it was when my kids were younger.

Thank you

you can call the county you live in and they could give you a list of day care providers.
i was one in northern va many many years ago, fairfax county put me thru school, i took care of many children who are all now married and have children of there own, but still stay in touch with me, which is wonderful. beware of someone you dont get a background check on, and since i retired its very expensive so i hear now. for some people you are better staying at home with your own children, than spend
all your hard made salery paying someone else to raise your children. angie. m.
