I'm sure the cops target VA residents too, but I was just stating the fact about what I saw on Monday. The car had no tags on front bumper so I'm assuming it was an out of state car.

I know I was speeding and doing more than 70 in a 70 mph zone, but I'm positive I wasn't doing over 80 mph. I checked my GPS and maximum speed it noted was 77 mph. I deserve a ticket for speeding at 77 mph in 70 mph zone but being wrongfully summoned for 84 mph is just preposterous and the cop himself is guilty of being lawless. After reading this post here(http://www.city-data.com/forum/14512833-post41.html), I cannot believe what I was reading. I don't know how the cops and judges can live with themselves. No integrity or honor in any of these so called men of law.

Spending two decades of my life in a third world country, I saw so much corruption and heard stories similar to this. I understand US is not completely free of corruption but this is just too much. Such court, judges and PD are a disgrace and there must be an investigation launched by the state or by the federal government, since after all we are not in some third world nation.

EDIT: Bigfoot, If your daughter's ticket was issued in Emporia then I am curious about finding out how your daughter fought the ticket and what was the outcome. Thanks.

So bigfoot....you do not believe ANY cops or magistrates are ever corrupt?

Explain why they have such a reputation of being a speed trap in the first place? Speed traps in and of themselves a form of corruption.

Why do honest people who ADMIT to speeding complain that the speed was inflated to get a reckless driving charge on top of it?

These people don't mind being caught and ticketed for the REAL speed.

You also don't explain why SO MANY out of staters are involved or why rental companies warn people. I guess all cops are clean and all these people are the liars, huh?

I LOL at you because you deserve it if you are that naive.

It's all about revenue and very minimal about safety. Cops target, they do, that is why speed traps exist, certain roads have artificially low speed limits, etc. In regards to Emporia, I've never been or driven through, but it makes sense to target out of staters because they most likely will not fight the ticket. Easy revenue.

There is a stop sign by my house that cops use to get easy tickets, because people rarely stop. They hide behind the same bushes and rake in the tickets. A yield sign would be much more effective for this particular area, but that would not produce as much revenue as a stop sign. I do admit, it's fun watching them dart out from behind the bushes to race down the stop sign runner.

And remember cops are trained and encouraged to lie, and this is usually to get evidence against you to be used against you. There is never such thing as a "conversation" with a uniformed police officer.

Are you really this ignorant of LE training?

There is a small township nearby me which, instead of becoming a corruption prone speed trap, is more interested in actual safety......

They park an empty township patrol car very visibly at the side of the road.

This gets the intended results of slowing people down to the speed limit. Doesn't cost the township manpower or fuel. And doesn't turn the police into unethical jerks.

To make you feel better call it "strategic deception".

Let's see. I'll be driving through here tomorrow like I have done many times since I've lived here in 73 and I bet I don't get pulled over. Why? Because I won't be speeding. It really is pretty simple. And my daughter, the one who got a ticket here, still had VA tags on the car when she was cited. She says she's been through here many times since, now with NC tags on, and she's never been stopped. Why? Because she's not speeding. The concept is really simple.

Of course you missed the point.....

When you admit to speeding, but the cop writes you up for a higher speed just to add-on reckless driving, it's dishonest and corrupt.

When it's so bad that hundreds of internet sites and even rental car companies warn people to stay away...there's a problem.

That's also a simple concept.

Default Emporia

It's funny...I just got a ticket for 81 in a 70 and my cruise control was set at 72. There were about 5 cars between myself and the cruiser. I saw him from a mile away and moved over to the right lane...mostly as a courtesy because I though he was just making a u-turn. He came straight after me and my Jersey plates. I couldn't believe he gave me a ticket, but you can't talk to them. What the hell is going on in that area???
