I grew up in Collinsville, which is next door to Martinsville. Not many people move there. There are very few jobs, unemployment is awful. There's not much to see there, few cultural opportunities. Roanoke is an hour away, and Greensboro, NC, is about 45 minutes.

The schools are decent, I guess, although when I got to college I definitely felt behind. In high school I was in all the honors courses, but college still was a wake-up call.

There is snow in the winter, but typically it's not much. Schools will close for it though, because it gets very icy. Yep, there are four seasons.

One shopping mall, and it's lousy. For shopping, I'd go to Roanoke or Greensboro. There are, however, lots of restaurants. People like to eat there.

After I left for college, I never moved back to that area, not even during summer breaks. I've lived in Virginia Beach for 6 1/2 years, and I plan to move to Roanoke soon because I miss "home" -- but I do not consider home to be Martinsville/Henry County!
