Can you give a clue as to type of housing and most importantly, a maximum price?

Sorry, I'm so pressed for time forr details. Looking for a friendly safe warmer environment, as we live in North Jersey, but not a warm as FL. Looking into VA, NC,SC, and possibly North GA. We vacation in Fl time to time, too hot for me.

I know nothing about the south and am doing my research. Looking for single fam home, 150k, in a pleasant friendly town setting, suburban, where we can walk with our chidren an see friendly happy faces...nearby stores/restaurants/parks/organic produce/playgrounds, festivals, horses etc.. I have two young boys, 8 & 6, schools and safety are important as well. However, we are city go'ers, so having a decent side of a city nearby is ok. My husband wworks as an IT professional and construction, I am a stay at home mom, homeschooling a special needs boy...for now...but plan to transition him back to school when ready...my other child is in main stream 1st grade and in a great shool. Its a shame that money talks so much. I am looking for the best, for my buck. I can turn any place into a happy one! (Joke..lolol)

I've read in other posts...Salem being a nice choice. Commute is not much of a concern. We do a lot of remote work from home to keep afloat until we find a decent opportunity in VA.

Well dont move to northern va....I live there. The houses are overpriced 300,00 to 800,000k. It is not that friendly. Hampton Roads is great! I went to college there but it depends on what type of jobs your looking for. I am from NC. That is a great choice. Raleigh or Charlotte.

You ain't getting much for 150k in Northern VA. Folks up here make serious $$$.

You could get something in say Woodstock or Luray for your price ... you'd be maybe 90 minutes from DC w/o traffic, close enough to enjoy DC several times a year.

What size city are you hoping to be near? You could probably get something decent in/around Roanoke or Lynchburg for the $$$ you're talking about, or maybe the Tri-Cities (Bristol TN/Kingsport TN/Johnson City TN) .. you know, if you're not looking in East TN, you probably should.

Yup. You might be able to find a small 1 bedroom condo in Northern VA for around $150K, but you wouldn't want to live in the neighborhood.

You can probably find a smaller SFH in Winchester, VA for around that price. Parts of which have a quaint small town feel. Its about 90 minutes from DC. I would also check out Strasburg, VA and Martinsburg, WV.

Even the few listings you can find for $150K end up being just as much as a town home when you include the $250-$500 condo and HOA fees. And that's not even including taxes.

Although it's extremely expensive the job market here is really good as well as the salaries so it evens out for the most part. Like someone else mentioned, Winchester is pretty reasonable... You might be able to find something there.
