Tennessee (southwestern border state).

No, I would have to say North Carolina since I am a southerner, but I am sure Maryland is nice.

I think virginia is split up culture wise. I grew up in Virginia Beach and just that area is split up into country, city, and resort. My elementary school was less then a block from the beach. My high school was in pungo which is a VERY rural area. They were only 20 minutes apart.. then farther north they have town center which is very urban. I grew up in the southern part of VB... I was right on the border of Chesapeake which is another rural area. I used to have my milk delivered from a farm down the street. I personally think Virginia is much more rural then Maryland, but the farther North you get the more urban it becomes.

Virginia Beach beaches are the worst. I've lived theremy whole life and there are so many tourists and all the shops are sunsations and wings and over priced souvenir shops. I don't even understand why people vacation here. The beach area isnt even pretty. I definately agree that Hatteras is way better. I live in southern Virginia Beach so I'm only like 30 minutes from the border but me and my friends vacation there all the time. Prettiest state ever. The waves are way better too.

BUT sandbridge IS way nicer than croatan and the other ocean front beaches. That beach is closer to my house and it has almost no tourists. There are beach houses all around the beach and they have an even smaller beach called little island down the way.. If you ever visit again you should go to little island. It's a really fun place to hang out and make smores and stuff. It's closer to pungo and the southern kids hang out over there. It's really pretty at night

North Carolina is more liberal than Virginia. That said I'd pick North Carolina.
