I'm planning to visit Shenandoah Valley some time soon. Is this the right time? Are there lot of kids/family activities (7 & 13)? Thanks.

You can always find things to do. If caverns are your thing then you'll like Luray Caverns. Without knowing exactly what you are looking for it's hard to make suggestions. It's beautiful in the area now with everything greening up and things in bloom. You might also want to post this in the VIRGINIA section as the valley is not really in Northern VA.

Pretty good site here. The Skyline Drive is a great place to visit but with hot weather coming in the haze comes with it. Back in the 70's the views from the Drive was amazing. It's still nice but the haze limits what you can see.

Bryce Resort in Bayse, VA has mountain biking, a lake, a zip line, summer tubing and golf. There are numerous caverns (Luray, Shenandoah, Endless, Grand and more). Route 11 potato chip factory has windows where you can watch them make the chips, there is a one lane covered bridge near Mt. Jackson. You can check out the Luray Zoo or the drive through safari in Natural Bridge. There are also caverns at Natural Bridge (as well as the actual Natural Bridge). Massanutten has a water park. Skyline drive is beautiful and there are very easy hikes from the road.

Plenty of things to do in Winchester as well, at the top of the Shenandoah Valley: Children's Museum, Old Town Winchester, Shenandoah Valley Museum, DinosaurLand, etc...

I would not make a special trip for Dinosaur land. They've let that place slide.

How so? I was thinking of taking the kids there over the Memorial Day weekend. Is it still in good enough shape to impress a 7 and 4 year old?

Westside.. I don't think Dinosaurland is in worse shape than earlier years. It's always had a dated, old-school roadside attraction feel. But I think that's part of it's appeal. It's a living monument to the days of unique roadside attractions. They also have a cool, vintage gift shop. I took my young family there a few yrs back & they liked it; I had been there several times a generation earlier.

Where else are u gonna experience King Kong & brontosaurus statues in one place /peace/
