What small towns around Lynchburg would be good, for a family with two younger kids? Can we find any newer homes around Lynchburg with 3 bedroom and basement, for around 150,000? We will be visiting Amherst, VA. next month to look at apartment. Does anyone know of any good apartments? We plan on moving in July.

Thank you for any information in advance,

Mike

Oh my yes you can. For housing, check out this:

http://www.lynchburgmls.com/

greatest site ever for the area, and your price range is spot on for this area.

I live in Elon (rural....town-like thing in Amherst County). Madison Heights is ...ok....but take a look at Elon, Forest, and maybe Boonsboro.

As far as schools go -- you going public or private? If you go public, you'll want the following in terms of schools:

Elementary: Elon, Amherst Elementary, Seven Hills Elementary, Linkhorne Elementary.... well.....honestly? All of the area schools are good.

I don't know any areas around Lynchburg that would be suitable to raise a family. Remember, Jerry Falwell's extremist church and university are based in Lynchburg. It's not a good environment to raise young children in.

that's about the most ridiculous statement I think I've ever read. Please show me how the church is 'extremist' ?

(And no, I don't attend nor have I ever)

I don't see what the big deal is with Jerry. He is conservative, baptist, he could probably buy Lynchburg, he is a man of faith and shows it. What's wrong with that? Extremist isn't a good word to define his school or the church.
