Was driving through Virginia on I-64 yesterday about an hour west of Richmond, and I had a blowout on my pickup. Pulled over to the side of the road to change it, no big deal. Within a space of about five minutes, three people stopped to see if I needed help. I don't know if that's because I'm female or simply because your state is just THAT friendly, but it was a nice feeling anyway.

I sent the first two of them on their way, but the last person that stopped was a fellow in a great big yellow pickup with the license plate STNGER1 and he insisted that I had to let him change the tire for me, he would not take no for answer He was very polite and he got it done in no time.

So thanks to STNGER1 and to the other people who stopped. Even though I'm perfectly capable of changing my own tire, it was a lovely gesture for them to stop and ask. And, the accents are amusing

Anyway, if that's how most people roll in VA, it would be a nice place to live. Thanks again!

Great post Mercury - I think that's how it is also, i.e., nice people for the most part. Glad you didn't have anything serious wrong.

Where are you from? Wondering about the accents comment, LOL

I'm from southern CA, where we don't have accents

That would have been around Charlottesville by my calculations. Glad some people actually stopped to help! Accents can be funny in this state. You can find people with the thickest slack jawed drawl to ones with no real discernable accent at all. These could be people raised next door to each other for years too. I work in C-Ville, STNGER1 sounds familiar. I've probably seen him around town. Glad you have a good impression of our state but hopefully some other moron(s) won't ruin your impression of VA for you, or the rest of us!

Sorry Nebat, sadly there are plenty of morons who mindlessly will bash VA

First impressions usually stick around And yeah, I realize that there are idiots everywhere, but I usually try to ignore them.

Lucky you. My mother and two sisters (one a toddler) car broke down and she had to wait two hours for someone to help her. She asked people for help and everything. Considering you were on the interstate I would assume those people are not local at all, don't get used to it.

Oh, I don't wait for help, I'm perfectly capable of taking care of things myself. It just happened that the gentleman wouldn't take no for an answer and it was easier to let him do it than argue about it.

And yeah, he was a local. He said he worked in the area.

Default Nice people--here here!

I'm originally from California too and have been to Virginia four times. Now I'm relocating to the state for a new job. I have to agree that the people in Virginia (and I've traveled all over the country) are some of the most friendly, polite, respectful, and welcoming I've ever met. I'm excited about moving to a place where strangers say "hi" and may even smile at you for no reason other than being kind! It's really a refreshing change.
