Can you live in PG county and go to school in Montgomery County? (Frederick: apartment, houses)

I will be moving from NYC to MD in about 3 months or so. We're going to Maryland next week to look at houses. We're more interested in Bowie, it seems like a safe place and there's this really nice house we've been looking at. We're open to suggestions, but we wanted to stay close to my aunt who lives in Lanham.

Anyways, my question is can you live in Prince George's County and go to school in Montgomery County? I'm really interested in Montgomery Blair High School. It seems like a great school and my aunt suggested it to me. However, can I go there since I probably wouldn't live in Montgomery County? When I checked it out on Mapquest, the distance from the house we've been looking at to MBHS was only 24 minutes. It really isn't all that far. I know there's other high schools in Prince George's but I rather attend Montgomery Blair, and if we buy the house we've been mostly interested in, I'd be only 24 mins away from the school.

No, there is no "legal" way to be a resident of PG County but send your child to a Montgomery County school. Maryland is just like every other state. School districts are territorial; they do not collect tax revenue from their constituents to allow taxpayers from another jurisdiction to use their school system. This is said in no offense to Prince George's County but they pay a lot in taxes for much less return in their school system than Montgomery or several other counties.

Most Counties, including Montgomery and Prince George's, have a tuition system to allow non-resident students to attend a school on a space available basis. Prince George's fee is around $6000/year. I can't imagine Montgomery would be any less.

You know Eleanor Roosevelt High School is in PG county, not too far from Bowie, and a magnet school thats comparable to Montgomery Blair. Unless y'all dish our thousands of dollars a year to attend a school in MoCo, I'd look at Roosevelt. Hell even Bowie High School isn't that bad, probably #2 in PG county behind Roosevelt.

About Roosevelt: it does have a Science and Technology Magnet but admission is by testing in. You just don't move to the attendance area and get in. The majority of ER students are in the comprehensive program that's offered at all County high schools. If you factor out the S&T magnets (ER, Oxon Hill and Flowers) the top three public high schools in Prince George's are Bowie, Laurel and Frederick Douglass in Upper Marlboro. Bowie and Laurel will trade places every so often.
Suitland and Central both have IB programs but they're hanging on by thread to them and Suitland also has a Performing Arts magnet (admission by audition). Douglass is in the process of adopting the IB Middle Years Program in partnership with the Middle School feeder, James Madison MS. The jury is still out on that one.
All three of the comprehensive schools I listed have active AP programs with Bowie and Laurel having huge numbers, 20+% out of total school enrollment in AP classes, with Douglass running between 10%-15% of total enrollment. Laurel and Bowie both have more Science and Math AP classes while Douglass has high numbers enrolled in AP Language and AP Literature. Biology at FDHS is also a fairly large class.

I have friends in Clinton who are paying nonresident tuition for their daughter to attend in Montgomery County. So yes it can be done if they can get you a slot and you pay tuition. I believe it may be around $15k or so.
