Let's say if one's work is at the Navy Yard exit (Green Line), which is better, College Park/Bowie in MD or Alexandria or Southern Alexandria in VA?

The work location is at: Map of 1200 New Jersey Ave SE Washington, District of Columbia by MapQuest

Here is a list of creteria I am looking for:

1) Cost of Apartment (one bedroom) and preferrably under $1,000 or at least not much more than $1,000.

2) Safety

3) Easier commute to work at the location listed above (I do have a car and be totally okay with driving to some Metro station, park my car, and take the Metro to work).

4) Things to do around (more so park, library, restaurant than bars/clubs)

Which one is better, MD or VA?

I am looking at the green line here:

Washington DC Metro Map

If I live in Bowie, how easy is it to find parking at Greenbelt MARC or College Park MARC parking lots?

Can I taken the Metro all the way from Greenbelt MARC station to Navy Yard Station? And how long would that take?

What does the dotted green line mean southeat of Fort Totten station?

Bowie would be closest to New Carrollton station. You can indeed take Metro from Greenbelt to Navy Yard. It would take around 30-35 minutes.

I think I should concentrate on apartments close (in terms of driving) to the green line stations near College Park area. Any recommendations? I would like to stay near $1000 for one bedroom.

How bad is parking at these stations during work hours? Is it bad in terms of having to park far away from the station or no parking space at all?
