We're looking at renting a house off Veirs Mill Road near Wheaton Claridge Park (north of the Wheaton metro stop). Any ideas on how safe this neighborhood is for women? I have to commute to Bethesda for work and will likely take the bus. Thanks.

It is urban-safe. It is not worse than any urban area in Montgomery County. There is nothing to worry about. Veirs Mill though would be very noisy road if you are right on it.

So I'm curious about why exactly it's unsafe. We've been driving around the neighborhoods- they seem a bit tired/old, but not necessarily run down. Any comments? This is about a mile away from the Wheaton Metro, and seems pretty residential.
Any advice as locals would be much appreciated!

You may want to check out Community Policing & Neighborhood Crime Statistics | CrimeReports.com Change the date range to add more months.

I also scan the police reports in the local section of the Wash Post on Thursdays or in the Gazette. There seem to be more assaults and robberies (versus just thefts from cars/unoccupied houses) in certain areas (not just Wheaton). I am also concerned about criminals targeting who they perceive to be the illegal community, because they may assume their crimes would not be reported.
