I work in Arlington and my BF works in Denton, MD. We've been living in Annapolis since that seemed like a reasonable middle ground, but the commute is killing me. My BF's commute is a breeze with no traffic. He has agreed to move further west, but we don't know the area between Annapolis and Arlington very well. We've been reading the forum and seem to find differing opinions on PG county overall so we don't know where to look, except to rule out the high crime areas people have mentioned.
We are young professionals ideally looking for an apartment, but would consider renting a townhouse or SF house. We would really appreciate some recommendations on safe, upscale areas to consider. We're open to any recommendations regardless of price. If you need some other information to help point us in the right direction please let us know.
Thanks so much for any assistance you can provide.

There are parts of Anne Arundel County, namely Crofton which would shorten the commute to Arlington. And there are good things said about parts of Prince George, for example the luxury apartments around the Hyattsville Metro. I would also look at renting a house in Bowie or Greenbelt, or maybe University Park.

Is your job in Arlington accessible by metro? It might add time to your commute, but it will more likely reduce the stress.

Taking the metro could be an option, but living that close in to a metro would probably not make the drive to Denton acceptable to my BF .
And, yes, HE should find a new job.

Do you drive all the way into Arlington?

What's the commute like if you jump off 50 and take the metro in from, say, New Carrollton, if you've tried it?
