Speed Cameras - Anyone else sick and tired of these? (car insurance, how much)

I've gotten 3 in the past year or so at 3 different locations, none of which are more than 20mph over the speed limit. Bad economy for Maryland? I wonder how much profit they rape out of citizens with all these speed cameras. I'm so tired of this.

I've found that the best way to avoid getting tickets is to observe the speed limit.

Nope, I've gotten maybe two speed camera tickets since I started driving in 2008. One was arguably unjustified (part of the Southeast Freeway speed trap in DC) and one was pretty justifiable (speeding along River Road in MoCo at night).

The buffer for the speed cameras in MoCo and PG is 11MPH. If the speed limit is, say, 30MPH then you can go 41MPH with impunity. Be glad you're not in Virginia where 20MPH over the limit is reckless driving (not that I necessarily disagree. Doing 55 in a 35 is pretty dangerous unless it's deserted).

We spend a fair amount of time in Brazil, and where are go there are speed and red light cameras in many, many places. But there is a law, at least locally, that says there must be signs advisiing people when cameras are present. People know to slow down as they pass cameras, then resume speeding. Or run red lights only at intersections without cameras. In the U.S., with fewer funds for police, I wouldn't expect a cutback in the number of cameras. Traffic cameras are found worldwide.

Not only are the cameras are well marked but you have to at least travel 12+ for the camera to take a picture. If you're sick of the cameras, take note of the speed limit.

It's interesting that having gotten three tickets at three different locations within a year's time, you think the problem is the cameras and not your speeding... It's also interesting that you consider it "rape," but that's probably something you need to discuss with a professional...

Nope, I actually like the speed cameras because they force the crazy drivers in Maryland to slow down! Maybe if they install more, my car insurance will go down (to what I was paying before I moved here.)

I have not yet seen a camera without a sign in MD; I have seen folks driving so fast they probably can't see the sign, LOL.

I don't mind the cameras. All of them that are located in my area have been placed nears schools, churches and residential areas. No need for folks to be flying through those types of areas at 40-50+ mph.

I imagine many people who have actually been violently raped would disagree with describing OP's experience as rape (even with OP's awkward phrasing).

I feel for you, and I know that sometimes a person can 'space out' and just not pay attention

There really is no excuse for getting caught on a speed camera. If you speed, you need to know where the cameras are. That's just being smart about what you do.

The locations are posted on Websites and there are signs alerting drivers that the cameras are coming up. So I really don't know how much notice and a heads up you want.....
