We are looking to move in the DC metro area this summer and looking at Rockville and Vienna/Fairfax. Please give me pros and cons of both areas( taxes, commute, sense of coomunity etc...). We will most likely be working in DC and have two kids of elimentary school age. Thanks in advance for your response.

I'll give a broad-brush generalization. Your property taxes will be higher in Rockville. The housing prices will be higher in Vienna for an equivalent house. The school quality is closely similar.

The politics at the state government level in Virginia is socially conservative to the point of being regressive, but they are more "business friendly". The Montgomery County government is more progressive (overly so, some would say.)

You will find more Jewish people in Rockville, and more evangelical Christians in Fairfax.

The commuting is probably equally difficult, but slightly worse from Virginia if you drive, as there are only a few bridges. The I-66 is also limited to car-pools during rush hours.

Please ask specific questions if you need to know more.
