I was on PGCPS' website tonight checking to see if schools were going to be open tomorrow and ran across this announcement. This guys background seems solid for the job. It would be interesting to know if he is replacing someone(if so who) and his success in this area in the past

He's replacing a couple people, Monica Goldson and, crap, I can't remember his name. There's been reorganization on top of reorganization the last couple years with Crawley and now Maxwell.

Thanks. So what impact does his role have on improving high school performance? What does someone in this role do on the day to day?

Fawcett was the guy whose name I couldn't remember.

Here's the organization chart. It's not up to date.

PGCPS Administrative Organization Chart

If I could answer your question I'd have a higher pay grade. What's happening now is that Maxwell is moving people around who got their jobs under Hite and Crawley and bringing in people from Montgomery and Anne Arundel Counties. Head count is going up at the upper levels.

Okay thanks. That's not surprising I been through a couple of reorgs and that always happens. Hopefully the replacements are effective. That's always a hit or miss in that situation.

Default School Board Nepatism

Here is an example of how school boards can get set in their ways and oppose innovative ideas and immediate change. While PG county schools aren't as bad as Detroit's, it shows how new superintendents can meet heavy resistance. This is partly why Baker assumed a leadership role and placed people on the board that could hold the board accountable.

An ousted superintendent for Detroit Public schools by the school board begins her story at 20 minutes into the documentary. It is very telling of how a school board can be lulled into an attitude of mediocrity and be opposed to revelations that they are actually part of the problem.
