Here are recent stats of student housing developments in the last 7 years compared to non-student housing.

I recall when students protested on campus in tents complaining about the lack of student housing. since then, there has been a wave of new student housing construction on campus and off. Could there soon be a glut of student housing? too much of a good thing?

"Could there soon be a glut of student housing? too much of a good thing?'

Without the student enrollment of those that will reside there, there is NO way to to even make an educated guess.

They have the numbers. The developers are betting that the students move away from renting housing in the residential neighborhoods and move into student housing closer to campus. So the question is, how much of those students will want to move from SFH and other areas around DC to the new student housing units downtown. This includes students from other colleges in the area who may want to live with other students like at University Town Center.

Also, do we want the ratio of students to permanent residents to be so high that College Park as a town empties out every summer and becomes a ghost town? pretty much like it is now with stores closing early during the summer hours.

More supply hopefully will drive down prices. And a lot of the rental housing is run by slumlords that take advantage of students who don't know their rights.
