Yeah, whatever. I stand squarely on the side of complete gentrification of DC. Violent criminals, gang bangers and crack hoes need to relocate to Miami, LA or some such place. The nation's capital is simply no place for them.

Gentrification is good on some level. Let's be honest, poor people are going to be poor whether they remain in the District or move to Temple Hills, Maryland. With gentrification, at least some of the urban poor get to take advantage of the amenities that come along with a wealthier tax base. Would it be better if Shaw was 100% poor with a subpar library or 60% poor with the fantastic new library that just opened at the corner of Rhode Island and 7th?

I suspect people complaining about DC gentrifying were complaining just as badly about "white flight" that left the cities without resources or commerce.

I think it's just class warfare for these folks (why else would they use the word "invasion")?)and wherever wealthier people live these folks will complain about it.

Well, "white flight" was not mainly economic. Plently of lower middle class whites left the city too. But the people moving back in now to buy the new big box condos are only the rich. So two different phenonemon.

That's not really true. A lot of people moving to DC are young or old and not making a lot of money. They may not be buying anything, but their demand for housing, retail, and entertainment have significantly altered the city.

People just want to live in cities again. Nothing more to it than that.

Not exactly.A lot of middle class college students and recent grads are moving to the city too. Many live paycheck to paycheck so they would not be considered rich...

Well I'm glad that mystery's solved. DC certainly never attracted any college students or recent grads during the Barry years.

No not condos. Not I've seen plenty of young'uns live 4 to a rowhouse or others that rent a apartment in a not so nice area. Just because a white person lives in DC doesn't make them rich...
