My husband will be working at HUD (I think on 7th St SW) starting Jan 1.
He needs a studio or 1 bedroom apt (or a share) on direct bus route as he can't walk far.
I guess he would look at SW Waterfront?
I'm looking for suggestions on best area/s of city, apartment buildings, and average rent.
It'd be great if anyone knows of a great roommate situation!
(I'm staying in Atlanta area on our farm).
thanks in advance

I and another poster on here (Juniperbleu I believe her name is) both live in the SW waterfront area and I would suggest you look at this area. If he is looking for an apartment, I would suggest Waterside Towers as they are on 6th street and pretty close. However, if he is interested in renting a condo, I would suggest looking at Town Square Towers, he would only be about 3-4 blocks from work.

Personally, I love this area. What is his budget and how many bedrooms would he need.

Default Sw?

He only needs one bedroom and budget = cheap! As he'll be paying our mortgage in Georgia too!
thanks -

I agree with ahales that the SW Waterfront area is probably his best bet, especially around 6th or 7th Street. If he can't find anything affordable there, HUD is on top of the L'Enfant metro station, so he can try to find a place near a metro line (yellow, green, blue, and orange all go there, go to Metro - Rail - Maps - Rail/Google Map) and take that in.

As far as "cheap", that's pretty relative. A studio apartment can easily run $1200 in the DC area, which is astronomical compared to some other areas of the country.
