If you choose some of these suggestions you will find your commute is no better than where you are now.

I appreciate all the great information. After talking some more to my coworkers it does seem like I will just have to bite the frigid traffic bullet! Thank you all for your responses!

Default Virginia beyond the Beltway

Virginia beyond the Beltway. If you need public schools, do not live in DC or close-in Maryland, except Rockville.

uh, the original poster was approved for $300K. I'm sure he could afford to buy a teeny piece of land in that school district and put one of those metal garden sheds on it.

Ok? OldCavalier seemed to be implying that MD schools close to DC are bad.

Hello, I am also looking for a house to rent around the area with good high schools, low crime rate and a reasonable commute to the joint base. We are moving there in august. I have a toddler and children in high school. I am having a hard time trying to find a home that is close to the base and close to good schools. Thanks

For the benefit of the rest of us non-military folk, is the "joint base" Bolling AFB?

I would forget about living close to the base if you want good schools. You could check out Charles County Maryland, Anne Arundel County Maryland or Fairfax or Alexandria Virginia. An hour commute is not unreasonable in this area. About the closest place I would recommend is Greenbelt Maryland, if you can find a house in the Eleanor Roosevelt High School district. That is about 30 minutes from Bolling.
