DC has a crane on every corner with new ones popping up every other day. So what is missing downtown for families moving into downtown DC? A children's playground and jungle gym. Well that's about to change!

First children's playground downtown?
Are you sure about that?

I recall there being a playground downtown in front of one of the museums.
1970s. 1980s.
I used to go there with my family.
Instead of a jungle gym there were several dinosaurs for children to climb and play on.
Lots of kids would play there.

This is going to be an actual playground like you would see in other downtown's like Manhattan. Slides, swings etc. etc.

The playground I was talking about was an actual playground with a dinosaur theme. I know this because I vividly remember climbing on top one of the dinosaurs as a kid and it required the same amount of effort as climbing on top of a jungle gym. I do not remember swings but there definitely were slides there too.

So your statement about the first children's playground being built downtown is incorrect.

The National Mall is not downtown so what you are talking about doesn't pertain to this. You are talking about a tourist playground around Museums and Monuments that isn't designed for people living around it. Why? Because nobody lives around the national mall. I'm talking about a real playground for residential buildings in the middle of the city. That means high rises surrounding a playground. Big difference. You can't compare your experience playing on the national mall to an experience playing in a neighborhood playground. Apples and Oranges.

This is what an urban downtown style children's playground looks like. Notice how dense the neighborhood is:

And then there is what you called a downtown playground area.......

The National Mall is not dense and is not surrounded by anything resembling an urban downtown CBD:

With a few of these sprinkled in still looks spread out and nothing like a downtown:

The National Mall is downtown. Perhaps you should have been more specific when you mentioned the first children's playground being built downtown.

The playground I am talking about was very much a real playground and looked nothing like the National Mall picture you posted.
I am not a tourist. I vividly remember playing in the playground and it was right in the middle of the city.

I also used to walk my dog (R.I.P.) and ride my bicycle right in the middle of the city too.
