DC has the ability to handle the Olympics. The question is...do they have the stadiums/arenas, and how well will Metro run? That's key, if Metro can't handle stuff now, who's to say they can handle the Olympics?
Supposedly we have the most stadiums per-capita in the United States.
If we do get the olympics, they'll have to fast track building the underground Blue Line.
That's what I think. Yeah it will be 2 weeks of traffic struggles, but years or gains in the end. With all the stadiums in the area already, I think DC could be a rare city that stays in the green when it comes to finances. But we all know the IOC doesn't want to choose a city that will be financially responsible, they want a city that will blow billions on a huge fancy Olympic complex.
Washington DC does not really need the Olympics anyways since it already has worldwide recognition.
Actually I would be happy if no US cities hosted the Olympics in 2024, just from the added expenses of building new venues, security, crowds, etc. As far as I am concerned other countries such as South Korea, Russia, or Brazil can deal with that added hassle.

DC wouldn't need that much security in the budget because of the huge security presence in DC already. As for the buildings, DC already has a lot of venues that could work if they were just renovated, or could work as is. The problem would be getting the IOC on board with a plan that doesn't call for building a huge sprawling Olympic Park. I do think that DC needs some recognition. I have traveled abroad and many people believe that there is nothing more to DC than the monuments and government, many people don't realize that DC is actually a bustling city
It is fun to think about possible venues. Here is what I could come up with:
Soccer and field hockey - RFK, DC United, Fed Ex, M&T, Naval Academy, probably others suitable.
Basketball and other hard court (handball, indoor volleyball, badminton) - Verizon, GWU, GMU, Howard, UMBC and Navy, probably others.
London used a convention center for boxing, fencing, judo, taekwondo, weightlifting and wrestling.
Equastrian - Pimlico
Gymnastics - Verizon
Athletics - Rebuilt RFK
Tennis - FitzGerald
Outdoor swimming/triathlon/canoe/rowing/sailing - National Harbor, Inner Harbor or Annapolis
Mountain Bike - Rock Creek Park or Prince William Forest Park
Beach volleyball - I think it would be cool on the Mall. London was a temporary facility.
Marathon could be just about anywhere.
Shooting and archery maybe on the Mall.
Basically the only thing that needs built is a aquatics facility, velodrome, and BMX site.
I think that if DC were going to do it they would need to tear down and rebuild a new stadium at RFK. Which is a good thing for getting the Redskins back in the city. I was thinking they could renovate Stadium Armory as the aquatics facility. I think beach volleyball on the mall would be amazing, but where? The government is spending so much money rehabilitating the grass that I don't think they would be okay constructing a huge thing that would kill the grass. You forgot to mention Crew, which could be done on the Potomac. But you are right. DC has so many stadiums already that we could host the Olympics and actually make a profit.

They already have volleyball courts in that section down by the Lincoln Memorial, could go there. I also forgot about College Park.
