Looking to supplement my income part time. I don't live in DC but am from Dundalk, MD. Looking to get some side cash by driving around DC since it would have more traffic/passenger potential than Baltimore. Has anyone here driven for Uber? If so, what are your experiences?

I tool uber for about 4 months. Learned a lot.

So, Uber takes 70% of your pay, then you get 30%.

You charge the customer $5 when they get in and sit down, no matter if they leave right after or not

$100 and little + a month gets you to purchase a vehicle for you to claim it as Uber vehicle. I don't know how the tax system is setup, but it's win win

Uber X makes more money than Uber Black, unless this is your weekend car only.

There are a lot more about other stuff, but I'm tired. Gonna go sleep.

I honestly think weekend Uber, while you have a full time job is the way to go. It's like giving your friends a ride home. You're making sure they get home safe, and make some money doing it.

I guess the problem is, people believing that they can make tons of money doing Uber full time. I mean, taxi drivers make $30 to $40k annually. I honestly can't see how Uber drivers can make more money. I mean, given that taxi drivers pay more to rent the car, but Uber drivers shouldn't expect $90k a year, UNLESS, they are strategic about what they're going to do.

The key is always, for whatever you do, do less work and make more money.

Assuming you'd be doing UberX, the split is:
80% to driver
20% to uber
$1/trip "safe ride" fee paid by driver
$10 weekly phone charge from Uber
All expenses are borne by the driver

UberX rate is (As of rate-cut last Friday, effective through Feb 13):
$2 base fare
.20/min
$1.02/mi
Minimum fare $5
Cancellation fee $5

UberX offers an hourly guarantee as of last week as long as you meet minimum work requirements (must accept 90% of fares, must average 1 trip per hour, must be online 50 min of an hour for it to qualify).

PEAK
$26/hr
Fri & Sat (5pm-3am)

REGULAR
$20/hr
Daily (6am-5pm)
Sun-Thu (5pm-Midnight)

OFF-PEAK
$16/hr
Mon-Fri (Midnight-6am)
Sat-Sun (3-6am)

It's unclear what rates will go to on Feb 13th. It's also unclear if the hourly guarantee will remain after Feb 13.
