Are dollar bills accepted on the Metro buses? Will only be traveling on them for one day, so I don't plan on buying a SmarTrip card. Thanks.

I guess. You probably left already anyway, right?

No, I'm actually not visiting until next week. It "seems" likely they do, based on what I've read. But I couldn't find anything concrete on the WMTA site.

I think they accept both really. It's just that if you don't have exact change, you get no change back.

Great! At least the $1.75 fare is less than the NYC fares...especially since it will just be for a quick trip from Ford's Theatre to the Capitol Building

Yup, they take cash, just won't give change. Either have exact change on hand or just know/accept that you won't get the excess back.

Walk two more blocks up 10th street (to NY Ave) and you can take the Circulator to Union Station which is a 10 min walk from the Capitol: http://www.dccirculator.com/Portals/...chure-2015.pdf. The nice thing about the Circulator is that it's only $1, comes every 10 minutes, and is cleaner than the normal Metro buses.

Yes, they accept both. The Circulator buses too.
