On the other hand, blocks like that are what make it an affordable area. Remember, it wasn't too long ago that Dupont, Logan, U Street, Shaw, Bloomingdale, etc had many blocks like that. Today, non-home owners are jealous of the people who bought there, but many did when it was a bit scary. No risk, no reward!

Yes, I know there are a couple of developments that have been built. Just my personal preference but I wouldn't rent in a neighborhood that's still in the process of transitioning like that. Buying is definitely a good investment if you have a way to get to work without Metrorail.

I would rent on H Street in a heartbeat. The only thing that might be an issue is the walk to Metro (and the 20 escalators to get to the platform).

And in front of that is another whole set of run-down buildings, and more ghetto in general.


Much like the situation with the Lotus Square apartments that are right by the Minnesota Ave metro station
