This Saturday is my husband’s 32nd b-day. I am taking him to the USA-Canada Soccer game at RFK in the evening and need to find a good place to have a late lunch / early dinner prior to the game.

Something with outdoor seating, good ‘American’ food, and low-key/relaxed would be perfect. I am open to anywhere within a mile of 15th & U Sts… I am planning to take him to Cakelove for a cupcake afterward.

Any recs would be appreciated! Thanks!

Lots of great options...a wide, diverse variety in that area, so hopefully he'll be up for straying from "american food" since that's really not what U-street is about.

Check out Lauriol Plaza at 18th and T -- best TexMex in the city.
Dukem, at 11th and U if you're feeling adventurous (Ethiopian)
Chi-Cha lounge at 16th and U
Viridian at 14th and Q
And for a great view from the upstairs lounge, Tabaq Bistro at 13th and U.

The "American Food" does decrease your options, but there are a couple. Logan Tavern, at 14th and P, probably best fits the low-key/relaxed, American Food requirement.

Quick question, why are you limiting your options only within a mile of 15th & U st? If you are heading to RFK, why not check out Cap hall-Eastern market neighborhood. Couple stops from RFK on the metro.
