Howdy Yall, the wife and I are coming up to DC for our second annual Thanksgiving DC trip....

We will be staying at the Williard for four days. While there we are looking for Recommendations for TG dinner/lunch, and other places to eat during this time...

We are looking for some really can't miss places and some out of the way secrets that you may have for dining in the downtown area....

Howdy,

I've found Thanksgiving dinner out in the DC area to be hit or miss on the few times I've done it; your best bet may be one of the hotel restaurants, some of which are quite good (e.g., Cityzen).

As for other places, it's really about what you're looking for (cuisine/atmosphere/price). Here are some of my favorites that aren't terribly far from the Willard:
Komi (if you're a foodie and like a long meal)
Kinkeads
Zengo (wife loves the black cod)
Tosca
Morrison-Clark (may be a Thanksgiving option)
Jaleo (tapas)
Matchbox (casual)
Brasserie Beck
Pizzaria Paridiso (casual/pizza - the location in Georgetown is more spacious)
Taberna del Alabardero
Charlie Palmer Steak (sleek interior for a steakhouse)
Zaytinya

And I'm sure I've left something out. Enjoy your stay!

on another note during Thanksgiving the city becomes like a ghost town... lots of people leaving to see extended family elsewhere.

It wasn't a ghost town last year when we were there, the lines were not nearly as long as when we visited during the summer. but far from a ghost town....

Maybe just because all of the Gov'ment workers are out of town that weekend it seems that way....

DC definitely empties out on Thanksgiving, while cities like Cleveland and Buffalo fill up with Rust Belt expats. It's actually quite eerie, but I guess if you don't know what's normal it wouldn't seem that way.

Wine before turkey, wine after turkey and more wine during football with some more turkey. No one leaves their compound for 72 hrs. Good luck.

See you there- we are also coming up for Thanksgiving. So that's proof it won't be a ghost town huh? We are a family of 5 and its our first Thanksgiving away from family so we thought we would try D.C.. We just moved from CO to VA and its our first DC trip. We are staying at the Embassy Suites. We too are on the look out for a decent turkey day meal.
Hope your trip is uneventful in bad ways and wonderful in plenty of good ways! Now...where to park?!!
