I've yet to explore the area's Farmer's Markets. What are the best places? I don't mind a road trip. In fact, if there's some kind of Amish market within driving distance that's worth a day trip I'd be all for it!

There's an Amish market in Annapolis at Harbor Place (or harbor center?) on route 2.

As far as garden variety farmer's markets go, I've enjoyed the ones at eastern market, old town alexandria and dupont circle.

Not sure where you live, but the Saturday morning farmer's market in the City of Falls Church is nice.

Do you know if the one in old town alexandria is weekends-only or a permanent fixture?

It's located among the fountains out front of City Hall, so I'm pretty sure it's only saturday.

Definitely weekends-only. Actually, it's only on Saturdays and is one of the country's oldest continuously-running markets (not entirely relevant, but an interesting fact). My coworker goes every weekend, and now actually works to help out some of the vendors when needed.
