rather than brand new ones... Watching War and remembrance and there are several parts in DC that weren't sets, and were really filmed here... St. John's across from the whitehouse, scene with Mrs. Henry and that older army guy..
How about the DC scenes in Forrest Gump? Set (CPU Generated) or filmed on location?
I'm sure they filmed it here. Even in movies like the last die hard movie where they used scenes from other cities to portray DC, some of it was in DC. The skyscrapers were a giveaway though.
But movies only show the nicer parts of D.C, where rich white people live because they be too scared to *** to the hood and show how the struggle really goes down.
The original "The day the earth stood still". The remake was a waste. And my favorite " Logan's Run" depicting DC in a much more tranquil, quiet state.

Theres some movie that was made with Morgan Freeman in it that was filmed in Lincoln Heights and other parts of NE and the southside. I forgot the name of it though.
But trust me they're not that afraid, if movies./shows can be filmed in west and east Baltimore (The Wire) and Brownsville, Brooklyn, NY (Brooklyn's finest) then it can be done in D.C., actually theres a movie in production right now thats based on the struggle and life people live in the hoods of D.C.
I'll try to find the name of it.
