I recently moved to Burlington and love everything about it. I am from California. The first thing I noticed when we moved out here were the drive-thru coffee shops. There are a lot of them out here. I have seen them in California but not this many, however there are a lot of coffee shops. I am very curious to know, why do you prefer to go to a drive-thru coffee shop?

Well, here are a few reasons that apply to me:
-In a hurry (on a 10 minute break, or need to get somewhere)
-Driving through on a trip (need some coffee to stay alert)
-Have the cat in the car (don't want to leave her in vehicle)

No one has time to get out, go in and sit down to drink their coffee
very often. I'll do that at work instead of a meeting sometimes, but usually it's to drink in the car. Then we have this competition between the independent drive-thrus to see who can have the baristas with the least clothing on, causing various cities to pass new laws.

Now that is a question that I love to talk about! I think the reasons are two-fold. Obviously, they are convenient. This plays a part both for the commuter dashing off to work, and also for the suburbanite trying to get their errands done with the least amount of time spent. Having children or pets in the car is a big factor in that second case. I also believe it has something vaguely to do with a lifestyle built around the car.

The overall success of drive-through coffee stems from three cultural phenomenons, in my opinion: instant gratification (fast service), love of the automobile-centric life, and tremendous return on investment for the owners. And coffee is a legal addiction, which doesn't hurt.

Okay, I'll stop before really getting into this. moderator cut:
