Hello, I have read a few threads on here about Whidbey Island, but I wanted to ask a few more questions.

We are moving in about 2 months. We have lived in Seattle for a year about 5 years ago, but had to relocate to Oklahoma for a job and family close by, but we missed the northwest to much so we are making a permanent move back and we cant wait!

What is the best area to live on the Island for families.

What all is to do on the island on a daily basis.

Are the schools pretty good? Public or Private?

We like being outdoors, what are some great things to do as far as that goes?

Lastly, just anymore overall insight, tips or information about living on the island.

Thanks so much for all the help

It's a big island, so some things have to be taken into consideration. Is there going to be a commute involved ? To where?
There's a big military presence in Oak Harbor, which also has the largest population and the most stores on the island.
The schools on the island are considered pretty good. Personally, I like Langley the most. It's beautiful, it has a movie theatre, and a very good pizza place. What more does one need? Some people like Coupeville a lot. Freeland is conveniently located. If you need to get to Seattle, Clinton is where the ferry leaves from, so proximity to Clinton should matter.
There's all kinds of beach walking. There are organized sports for kids. There are some excellent dog parks, especially Double Bluff Beach. I'd live on Whidbey. But if you're looking for a place with a lot going on, it might not be the place. There may be enough going on, but `that depends on what you're looking for.

Have you considered Anacortes? It is not on Whidbey, but is on Fidalgo Island, a short bridge trip. Anacortes is north of Whidbey, is a fair sized city with beautiful views, and you can get to it via bridge, rather than ferry.
