I just moved here from the Chicago area and I live right on the Federal Way/NE Tacoma line. I start a new job tomorrow in the Delridge area of Seattle. It says about 35 minutes without traffic to get there. Can I expect an hour to get there if I have to be at work at 8:30 am? I was actually considering taking 99 to get there to avoid I-5.

Keep up with traffic reports, and when I-5 is clogged NB, use Hwy 99 to 509 as an alternative. It will bring you right into Delridge, albeit with traffic lights on the 99 portion. Time will depend on what I-5 is doing. Most tv and radio provide good info, and of course, online, too. Keep in mind, when I-5 gets messy, the alternate routes also quickly fill up.

Welcome to Washington. How did the commute and first day go? I usually listen to the morning traffic reports on 97.3. They do theirs every ten minutes at three minutes (7:03, 7:13, etc.). They almost always mention the Federal Way to Seattle commute. Highway 99, 509, and or Des Moines Memorial Highway will likely save you time. I hope you enjoy living out here.

Thanks. It wasn't bad. I've gotten from my apartment to work in about 40 minutes most days. Driving back is about an hour or so. It could be worse, I guess.
