My body likes the extra hour of sleep when we go back to standard time. However, it sucks that it's dark when I go to work, and dark when I get off work in the wintertime. An hour in either direction, really isn't going to help through. We're just further north and lose more sun during the winter.

To continue the topic as we hit "Standard Time" this weekend: (using Seattle as the location)

Current policy:

Winter solstice: Sunrise 7:54 AM, Sunset 4:19 PM
Summer solstice: Sunrise: 5:11 AM, Sunset 9:11 PM

If we were on standard time year 'round:

Winter solstice: Sunrise 7:54 AM, Sunset 4:19 PM (same)
Summer solstice: Sunrise 4:11 AM, Sunset 8:11 PM

If we were on daylight time year 'round:

Winter solstice: Sunrise 8:54 AM, Sunset 5:19 PM
Summer solstice: Sunrise 4:11 AM, Sunset 9:11 PM (same)

Which do you prefer?

I kind of like what we are doing today, despite the changing of the clocks. My 2nd choice would be daylight year 'round. Standard year 'round would be the worst, with adding an hour of daylight when most are sleeping, and stealing an hour of summer daylight in the evening. Boo.

Daylight Savings would be my first choice. I always dread switching back to Standard Time (counting it down as I write this). By Winter Solstice I start thinking about bridge-jumping and having dreams of Yuma, AZ. But, that’s just me.

One time all year. Stop the switching.

With year round daylight saving times, add an hour in the afternoon (5:19pm winter sunset), subtract an hour in the morning (8:55am winter sunrise).
depressing time of year

Like the current system.
There's something about the Summer Solstice at the Coast on July 4.
And the Winter Solstice at the Coast on Jan 01.

The bill passed the House and Senate and is now
Headed to Inslee's desk.

But the federal congress and senate have to approve it

Yep that is the big hurdle here. My gut says this won't pass muster in D.C. But, IMO, the current system is still better than year 'round standard time, (which doesn't need congressional approval). Year round Standard in the Pacific Northwest would rob summer daylight in the evening, and provide an extra hour of daylight in the wee hours of the morning when most are sleeping. Bad idea.
