It seems this winter is gonna be a cold one, maybe the coldest since 2007?
I don't think so! In fact, last year's winter was quite similar to this one as regards temperature (so far). And on the whole, I don't think this is so unusual, really. If you look at statistics from the last few years and before, we usually get a cold spell like this one once or twice in a year (maybe three times in very cold winters), that is, we have days where the lows are around the freezing point and highs fail to reach 50 F (10 C), usually are around 8 C (46 F). There are some years where the cold spells fail to be so cold, but those are the exception, in general.
BTW, 2007 winter was remarkable in BA not because of record-breaking temps, but because of consistently very low temps, during weeks on end... which gave negative anomalies.
