sweden's arguably rainiest village - mollsjönäs - is located 20km NE of gothenburg. the annual average precipitation there for 2006-2014 is 1391mm, compared to 991mm for the city during the same period. it also has the all-time annual precipitation record for sweden (1866mm in 2008).
where i live the average is around 1200mm.
Buxton is basically a microclimate, it's just what you get when you build a town on top of hills 1000ft higher than all surrounding towns. 15% colder and 50% wetter. YAYERS.
What base you use for "15% colder" ?
Thats means 15% less heat, if it were true, technically, your summer avg high would be around -23c, and winter avg high would be around -35c, (hint : kelvin)
The mountains north of my city are much wetter and cooler. Also, notice that the diurnal range goes down, and that the rain days don't go up much, so heavier downpours. However, this is different than mountain cities, as the northern mountains are right at the edge of the Appalachians, forming a micro climate.
Definitely a micro climate on the Chicago lakefront (Lake Michigan). It can easily be 10 degrees cooler within a few blocks of the lake in the summer, as when the wind is blowing in from the lake. Likewise, the fall can be more temperate as the lake remains warm for some time into the early winter months. Until the lake freezes, there is lake effect snow. The summers can be delightfully mild but the winters can be a bear!
