I have to laugh at the OP choosing a comparison between a major metropolis and a podunk town in the middle of nowhere. Seriously? It's like comparing London to some one horse town in the Aleutian Islands, even if for climate purposes only. I'm sure you can do a better search of climate stats in your quest to find a climate to best Phoenix.
That being said, I would skip both. I don't enjoy temps of over 100F at all. If I could have winter all year round in either location that would be doable, but then I would never get a proper summer. Even winter temps in Newman, at latitude 23S within the tropics, aren't all that warm.
I selected the two places only for climate comparison purposes because they seemed almost identical. The fact that one happens to be a large city and the other is a small outback town didn't even enter the equation...

I hear ya, but we in the weather forum sometimes get carried away with a particular locations climate stats and forget what the area would actually be like to live in. I don't think you will ever see that in the travel forum or geography forums where landscape and activities play as much a role as climate.

What's more laughable is your ignorance to the fact that there are many people who prefer to live in small towns over the larger cities. I would rather live in Barrow than NYC due to its better climate, despite the former being a podunk town. And since when is Phoenix considered a major metropolis? Not by world's standards as far as I'm concerned.

speaking of landscape, the Aleutians probably has better landscape than Philadelphia...
Anyone know, or have an estimate for the annual sunshine hours of Newman? At a guess I imagine it is somewhere between 3,500-4,000 hours...
Assuming it is at least 3,500 hours, I'd go for Newman as the maximums are steadier throughout the year.
