Since we did a regional comparison between the Californian coast vs. Australian coast.. I am wondering which do you think overall has the better climate for your preferences?
To be fair.. let's include Western Europe as the following countries:
France, Monaco, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, UK, Ireland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland

and for the PNW.. we'll include: Oregon, Washington, Idaho, British Columbia, Yukon and Alaska...

So which would you choose? It's a really tough choice actually... but I think I will give the edge to Western Europe as it includes a Mediterranean coastline and warmer SSTs in summer overall for the latitude in summer...

Western Europe is an easy winner for me, but only because of France and Monaco. PNW would be my choice without including those 2 countries.

For me, it is who has the best coastal climate that really counts.

Very tough choice...

I'd probably go with the PNW though since it is sunnier overall. (lol)

I'd go with Western Europe because of Norway and Sweden only. I have a friend who lives in Norway near a ski resort and the snow amounts are phenomenal

Pacific Northwest for me, for an overall comparison. I love the climate in parts of Sweden and Finland, and Iceland and Switzerland are decent, but that doesn't make up for the rest of the region. The Pacific Northwest has nice (read: nonexistent) summers on the coastline itself, and the mountains get abundant snowfall. There are many great climates for me in British Columbia, and parts of the Yukon. In southern parts of the PacNW, the climate is pretty lousy, especially in summer, but winters aren't any weaker than they are in most of western Europe, and cool summer nights prevail, usually cooler than the U.K. and France. This region also includes another climate I love, that of the Bitterroot Range and the Yellowstone Plateau. And I hadn't even mentioned Alaska yet - many parts of Alaska have a good climate, with some spots rising to great levels, and every place in the state is decent as far as I'm concerned.

Interior Northern Scandanavia would edge out anywhere near the Pacific Northwest ex-BC and AK, but when the regions as a whole are compared, the Pacific Northwest is vastly superior to Western Europe for me.

Western Europe. Just look at Spain. Some amazing averages there. Also far more thunderstorms and weather variation in Western Europe than Pac NW.

Western Europe North of 45° Lat (not all Western Europe is Monaco and the Riviera, ridiculous...) is bleak most of the time. The PNW is an easy winner!

Bleak most of the time? Really? Cloudy, yeah, but not wet, Paris for example is very dry compared to Seattle and a lot warmer in summer.. actually, Parisian summers are similar to Portland in terms of temperature.

PNW for me.
My favorite city in the PNW is Medford, OR. Over 3,000 hours of sunshine, baby.
