What do you think about freezing rain/ice storms? (snow, day, sun)

Here in southern Ontario we get them from time to time. They do look beautiful with the ice glazing the branches and bushes looking like crystal chandeliers, but they can be very slippery on the streets to walk and drive on.

Ice storms are the worst - far more dangerous than snow and they can do a lot of damage to trees and shrubs if is it thick enough and doesn't melt quickly. Helps if you live in a community that puts some kind of salt/de-icer on the streets but some either don't or don't do it quickly enough after it starts.

We have been here 27 years and only had freezing rain 3-4 times, but that was more than enough. If it happened today I wouldn't care much since I'm working from home, but one day when I had to use a vacation day there was a 1/2" thick coat of ice on my car, no way to even open a door. After the worst freezing rain event, the coating of ice on the overhead power lines started melting in the sun and dropping onto cars on the freeway, breaking some windshields. A local Mercedes dealer had a huge skylight fall from the weight of the ice into the showroom and onto a brand new convertible.

I voted "no opinion" because I don't necessarily hate or love them. I find them fascinating, yet frustrating and kinda scary. They can lead to some amazing scenery though.

Nothing is more beautiful than ice glazed branches.
