First of all, the subject here is Minneapolis, not Winnipeg. And while Minneapolis may be flat, I wouldn't call it a "dustbowl". It's got a major river flowing through it, and has about a dozen lakes. And it isn't even that flat: some parts of the Twin-Cities metro area rise above 1300 feet.

This is easy: Minneapolis, no contest.
I'll take cold over gloominess anytime.

Minneapolis has dreadful winters but they are sunny and dry. It has real summers, unlike the Buxtony rubbish Reykjavik suffers from.

Minneapolis isn't dry, either, it has, on average, 776 mm (31") of rain annually. Owen has a misguided agenda against the US and is probably under the belief that winters are better in Reykjavik because it is further north, when in actual fact, winters in Reykjavik are getting milder with each passing year, the rate of warmth there is probably among the highest in the world, a snowpack is rarely sustained there nowadays, not that much of a snowpack could ever be sustained there to begin with.

Have a look at Reykjavik this winter: December, January, February

The only interesting thing there is the pressure curve. Too bad it's one of the few weather parameters that one can't feel. For me, obviously Minneapolis. The lack of summer weather in Reykjavik would drive me nuts, and Minneapolis has a sweet climate anyway.

Despite almost as cold winters as in my hometown, I pick Minneapolis. Reykjavik has no summers and only two seasons there, it's winter and autumn. I don't like cool weather year round.

Minneapolis for sure. Some true winters with a fair amount of snow and nice, warm summers. I like the Reykjavik winters, but I don't do summers with highs in the 50's and record highs not even touching 80F.
