Portugal/Italy would be 3rd and 4th.
What do you think of the oceanic climates of northern Spain?

Bilbao - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's basically a warmer version of England.

Vigo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A dry summer version, similar to Seattle. Albeit with much milder winters.

The three Baltic states has the best climate overall. I was going to choose Finland but half of the country is subarctic.

It probably never snows there or they hardly ever get ice days either.

Most people agree with you. Something like 75% of the population live in the non-subarctic areas, 12% above 63.5N.

I'm not very fond of the Baltic states, they are way too cool in summer as well. Look at Vilnius and Riga:

I'm torn between Croatia and Romania. Ok, Croatia it is!

"Best climate" is entirely subjective to the individual. In my case, I voted for Spain and particularly southern Spain with mild winters and tons of sun. I did see Spain was leading as of now. bTW, how can anyone vote for Sweden??? Goes back to peoples preferences but I just can't fathom that.

I predict that the Benelux countries will come as one of the least selected, that type of climate doesn't seem to appeal to anyone on the Forum (too mild for cold lovers, too cool for mild lovers, too cool for warmth lovers, plus they're cloudy and really boring)

I think I would go with Italy for most of the same reasons as the OP.

Since I lean toward warmer climates it's hard to beat southern Italy for mild winters. I think parts of Sicily (Gela, Palermo) have the warmest winters in all of Europe, except for maybe Crete. France and Spain are close, but they lack a truly warm winter climate like far southern Italy. Greece would be # 3 after Spain at # 2.

Lots of great climates in the EU, but I'll go with Finland for the solidly cold winters and comfortable summers.

@ french user : the overseas departments are not in Europe (save administratively, which is purely artificial) so they don't count. Stop this national French chauvinistic imperialistic crap.
