Here, we get single digit F Low Temperatures approximately 7-8 times per year. I have never experienced a single digit high during my lifetime in the NYC area, but am probably sure it happens every 2 decades.
How often does your city get single digit temperatures.

We got to -12C once since I have lived here, in 20 years. Normally about the lowest is what we had last week, about -9C, and more often the lowest is -6C.
In downtown Vancouver maybe it happened twice or three times since recorded observation. I can say it has not fallen below -10C (14F) in the past 30 years.
Single digit lows probably happen once every 20 years here, hasn't happened since 1985 here. Closest it's been is 14 F on February 4, 2009 and January 11, 2010.
Never but makes me wonder if we could see 9 F as a freak outlier occurrence (much like my 90 F on Christmas Day scenario from my other thread- http://www.city-data.com/forum/weath...-san-jose.html ). Record low in my microclimate is 16 F and record high for December is 83 F.

It happens here once every maybe 25 years these days. Used to occur more often, but the last time was in 1989. The coldest it's gotten during my lifetime was 14.
