April finished on 12mm/just under half an inch. Not much rain in the past month, and no rain in our forecast.

April was rather unremarkable though. First half was better than the second half.

Apparently Leeming had 132% of the average sun. It will almost certainly be different here but I'm not sure by how much. 132% seems higher than I would have thought, but I think my opinion is skewed because the final week of the month was much cloudier.

I tend to be wary of sunny, dry Aprils given 2007 and 2011.. but then there are examples of sunny, dry Aprils with good summers (2003 being the most notable example).

Warm/dry/sunny Aprils at Heathrow, and the resulting summer.

1949 - hot and dry
1952 - cool and dry
1955 - average and dry
1984 - average and dry
1987 - cool and wet
1990 - hot and dry
1995 - hot and dry
1997 - average, hot/thundery August
2002 - cool and wet
2003 - hot and dry
2007 - cool and very wet
2009 - average and wet
2010 - average and dry
2011 - cool and wet
2015 - average and wet

It's only the extreme Aprils of 2007 and 2011 that were followed by shocking summers. Most of them tend to have average summers.

It's interesting that you call some of these summers "hot", yet those summer months would be fairly normal for even Paris, and cooler than average for much of Germany even.

Well, Paris and much of Germany is warmer in summer than London, so that stands to reason. August 2003 was hot here but would have been slightly warmer than average in London.

He's obviously speaking in a UK context. A typical summer in Paris and southern Germany is noticeably warmer than London.
